Balancing Act

Balancing Act

Year: 2019
Commission: Design Museum Holon for The Conversation Show exhibition
Curator: Maria Cristina Didero

Mobiles are kinetic objects that have virtually no function, yet are filled with character and personal charm. Their structure combines weights and sails, which enable them to remain balanced and respond to their surroundings with movement.

The process of creative thinking similarly combines balance and movement. It involves the constant motion of ideas unfolding in the course of conversations with oneself and with another. This project presents our conversations about balance through different mobiles.

Wings, which come in many forms, are both functional and structural, poetic and fragile. They are the forelimbs used for flight by real and mythological creatures, and have represented a technological challenge ever since antiquity, serving as the object of human fantasies. These characteristics led us to choose them as our object of study.

The project was displayed within an abstract setting of an imaginary natural history museum department dedicated to the study of winged creatures while also showing a glimpse into the studio's development processes.
